On June 15, Batalha Centro de Cinema presents the acclaimed film Young Törless, by Volker Schlöndorff. Set in an early 20th-century Austrian boys’ boarding school, the film follows Törless, a young student who silently witnesses the abuse his classmates regularly inflict on a defenseless boy. The film delves into deep issues of power, morality, and the dilemmas of adolescence, as the protagonist is confronted with the cruelty around him and the discovery of his own nature. Young Törless was awarded the FIPRESCI Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and offers a powerful reflection on the mechanisms of violence and the rise of fascist ideologies.
