YEARN, an exhibition by resident artist Eglė Norkutė

MACS invites you to YEARN, an exhibition by resident artist Eglė Norkutė.

Opening 16:00-21:00 24-05-2025

For her second solo show in Porto, Norkutė transforms her studio at MACS into an intimate exhibition space. Heavy ceramic mosaics, usually fixed to walls, are suspended in mid-air. The room evokes something dreamlike, ritualistic, and quietly theatrical.

Behind the curtains lies the “kitchen” of creation: kilns, glazes, pigments—the raw materials and tools that give birth to Norkutė’s pieces. This deliberate exposure of the production process offers a rare glimpse into the artist’s practice, demystifying the transformation from material to artwork.

“These floating works—bearing inscriptions like SICK and yearning in a normal way—embody a tension between weight and levity, permanence and ephemerality. The words stay with you, as do the gestures: a figure turned inward, a turtle held with care too gentle to trust, gloved hands presenting a glass eye in a box. The scenes do not unfold so much as persist, like an intrusive thought you can not turn off.

YEARN is an introspective journey that navigates the complexities of desire, vulnerability, and being seen. My installation invites viewers to contemplate longing and realization, visibility and concealment, artifice and authenticity.” — Eglė Norkutė
