A exposição “Três Irmãs” de Francisca Carvalho apresenta uma série de três grandes obras, criadas em Sanganer, Rajastão, no Noroeste da Índia, em abril de 2023. Cada peça possui cinco metros de comprimento por cerca de um metro e meio de largura, e foi feita com corantes naturais sobre tecido 100% algodão.
O nome “Três Irmãs” surge pela literalidade de três tecidos feitos no mesmo ambiente e com os mesmos materiais, mas também evoca uma metáfora sobre relações familiares e as imperfeições inevitáveis na repetição. A exposição explora a ideia de como as pequenas diferenças podem gerar distâncias e “abismos” entre as coisas que, embora similares, são distintas, como entre irmãs.

The exhibition “Three Sisters” by Francisca Carvalho presents a series of three large works created in Sanganer, Rajasthan, in northwest India, in April 2023. Each piece measures five meters in length and about one and a half meters in width, made with natural dyes on 100% cotton fabric.
The title “Three Sisters” comes from the literal fact that the works are three textiles made in the same environment with the same materials. However, it also evokes a metaphor about family relationships and the inevitable imperfections in repetition. The exhibition explores how small differences can create distances and “abysses” between things that, though similar, are distinct, just like between sisters.
