Priscila Fernandes – Make it Bounce

Duchamp é um sapo que perdeu a capacidade de saltar. Mondrian uma serpente que dá aulas de yoga. John Cage um rato que joga xadrez e apanha cogumelos. Um estúdio de yoga, um vídeo e uma cronologia que relaciona a arte abstracta com o lazer. Nesta exposição, os cogumelos transformam-se em instrumentos musicais, as pedras de um muro são as teclas de um piano, as borboletas nascem dos livros. Priscila Fernandes move-se em múltiplas direcções. Conta-nos uma história por analogias. Usa a justaposição para iluminar um mundo transitório, uma alternativa à história moderna. Oferece-nos uma digressão, desvios, não a rua de sentido único do progresso. O mundo que vemos não é outro, mas este percebido de um modo diferente. Priscila Fernandes joga com mitos da arte moderna, entretenimento, o desejo de criar sem restrições, com um salto que nos arranca da indiferença. Make it bounce, please, make it bounce!

Duchamp is a frog that has lost the ability to jump. Mondrian is a snake that gives yoga classes. John Cage is a mouse that plays chess and is devoted to mushroom foraging. A yoga studio, a video, and a chronology that relates abstract art to leisure. In this exhibition, mushrooms become musical instruments, the stones on a wall are piano keys, butterflies are born from books. Priscila Fernandes moves in multiple directions. She tells us a story by analogies and uses juxtaposition to create a transitory world where an alternative modern history is sketched out. She offers us a digression, a detour, not the one-way road to progress. The world we see is not some other world, but one perceived in a different way. Priscila Fernandes plays with modern art myths, entertainment and the desire to create without restrictions, with a jump that pulls us out of indifference. Make it bounce, please, make it bounce!

Priscila Fernandes (1981, Portugal) é artista e diretora da licenciatura em Belas Artes (BEAR) da ArtEZ University of the Arts, Arnhem, Países Baixos. A sua obra está enraizada numa pesquisa contínua sobre educação, o jogo, e a dialética entre o trabalho e o lazer.
Em vídeos, publicações, desenhos, pinturas e instalações sonoras, ela aborda as disputas sociais que estão no centro de decisões estéticas de diferentes movimentos modernos.
O seu trabalho tem sido exposto extensamente em vários países. Priscila Fernandes (1981, Portugal) is a visual artist and the Head of Department of the Bachelor of Fine Arts at ArtEZ University of the Arts, Arnhem, The Netherlands. Her practice is rooted in an ongoing research into education, play, and the dialectics of work and leisure. In videos, publications, drawings, paintings and sound installations, the artist addresses social disputes central to the aesthetic decisions of different modern movements. Her work has been exhibited widely.
