—— Sheena Hui é uma pianista originária de Hong Kong. Realizou dezenas de recitais a solo e de música de câmara em Hong Kong e nos Estados Unidos, fazendo sua estreia em concerto com a Claremont Concert Orchestra em 2018. Gosta especialmente de programar música de compositores chineses e contemporâneos, tendo-se apresentado com OSSIA New Music e estreou obras de compositores como Gao Ping, Oliver Dubon e Sophia Ouyang. Sheena tem um interesse particular nas áreas acadêmicas da música. Trabalha com o Instituto Gershwin da Universidade de Michigan nas edições críticas das composições de George e Ira Gershwin, incluindo as partituras para dois pianos de An American in Paris, Concerto in F e uma seleção de canções de Gershwin. Atualmente trabalha na sua dissertação sobre o estilo de composição de Alexander Borodin, com o objetivo de completar uma série de obras inacabadas do compositor.
Tendo trabalhado de uma linhagem de professores notáveis, Sheena está profundamente ciente da responsabilidade de partilhar a arte e o conhecimento que herdou. Fundou o Athenaeum Concert Series nos Estados Unidos, onde vários artistas são convidados a apresentar palestras-recitais interdisciplinares; a temporada inaugural neste Outono versa sobre o tema Renewal from Ashes – War, Destruction, Remembrance, Peace. Lecionou também em vários festivais de música, como o Palmetto International Piano Festival, nos Estados Unidos, e o Opus 1 Summerfest and Choir Camp! em Hong Kong. Atualmente é professora assistente de teoria musical e literatura para piano na Eastman School of Music, além de trabalhar com os técnicos de piano da universidade.
É aluna de doutoramento na Eastman School of Music, onde estuda piano com Natalya Antonova e Ran Dank e trabalhou anteriormente com Logan Skelton na Universidade de Michigan e Gayle Blankenburg no Claremont McKenna College.

Primarily a pianist, she has performed dozens of solo and chamber recitals in Hong Kong and across the United States, making her concerto debut with the Claremont Concert Orchestra in 2018. She enjoys programming music by Chinese and contemporary composers, having performed with OSSIA New Music and premiered works by composers such as Gao Ping, Oliver Dubon, and Sophia Ouyang. Sheena has a particular interest in academic fields of music. She has been working with the University of Michigan Gershwin Institute to edit upcoming critical edition scores of George and Ira Gershwin’s compositions, including the two-piano scores of An American in Paris, Concerto in F, and a handful of Gershwin songs. She is currently writing a dissertation on the compositional style of Alexander Borodin with the goal of completing a number of unfinished works by Borodin.
Having benefitted from a lineage of remarkable teachers in lessons, classrooms and through various media, Sheena is profoundly aware of her responsibility to share the artistry and knowledge she has inherited. She has founded the Athenaeum Concert Series in the United States where guest artists are invited to present cross-disciplinary lecture-recitals; its inaugural season this fall is unified by the theme Renewal from Ashes – War, Destruction, Remembrance, Peace. Sheena has also taught at a number of music festivals such as the Palmetto International Piano Festival in the United States, and Opus 1 Summerfest and Choir Camp! in Hong Kong. She is currently a teaching assistant in music theory and piano literature at the Eastman School of Music in addition to working with the Eastman piano technicians.
Sheena is a doctoral student at the Eastman School of Music where she studies piano with Natalya Antonova and Ran Dank; she previously worked with Logan Skelton at the University of Michigan and Gayle Blankenburg at Claremont McKenna College. Sheena is endlessly inspired by the pursuit of philosophical, scientific, and artistic truth.
