“Quando caminham juntos, ao final da tarde, é na floresta perto da tua casa. É Outono em Londres, claro e brilhante; através das árvores, podem ver-se as fachadas dos prédios, vividamente iluminadas de amarelo, em contraste com o cinzento plúmbeo do céu. Dentro de algumas horas, o pôr-do-sol irá incendiar as nuvens. O céu é imenso e violentamente fechado por cima da copa das árvores, mas aqui em baixo estamos abrigados; há uma sensação de isolamento e profundidade, de enormes distâncias. De qualquer modo, estás mais concentrado no outro, que te acompanha. O tempo é bem passado – sentes amor e um vínculo, sentes que ambos estão felizes enquanto caminham, por vezes conversando sobre coisas profundas e intensas ou sobre arte, mas a maior parte do tempo apenas caminhando num silêncio confortável. De quando em quando, pressionas com o dedo a palma da outra mão para teres a certeza de que, mesmo inconsciente, ainda tens controlo total sobre o que acontece. Podes fazer o que quiseres, mesmo que não explores isso plenamente, pois a tua postura ética está profundamente desenvolvida e sob pleno controlo operacional, mesmo aqui embaixo, nas águas exuberantes da fabulação. Após algum tempo, a cena dissolve-se, despertas e registas a experiência em detalhe para que mais tarde a possas partilhar. (…)”

Avril Corroon (Irlanda, 1991) é uma artista visual que trabalha com imagem em movimento, performance e escultura, examinando as condições de vida precárias, a crise da habitação, as desigualdades económicas e a exploração laboral. Mediante a construção de um Porsche à escala 1:1, com papelão coberto por uma capa de protecção de carro, queijo artesanal feito a partir de bolor tóxico recolhido em alojamentos alugados ou filmando dissimuladamente enquanto serve, mal, as mesas num restaurante, Avril combina um humor negro, absurdo, com a crítica. Em 2019, Avril Corroon concluiu o seu MFA na Universidade de Goldsmiths. Tem vindo a desenvolver, em 2022, o projecto “Got Damp” no TACO (2023), em Londres. Realizou várias exposições individuais, destacando-se: “Spoiled Spores”, com curadoria de Sheena Barrett no LAB, Dublin (2020) e “Just Do It”, no Ormond Studios, Dublin (2014). O seu trabalho foi exposto e projectado em The Feminist Supermarket na Ormston House, Limerick (2021), em Work in Progress na South London Gallery (2020), em “Forming a Residency Association” na Lux (2020), na Enclave (2018), em Londres, no Hotel Maria Kapel, na Holanda (2016) e na Temple Bar Gallery & Studios, em Dublin (2016). O seu trabalho tem vindo a ser coleccionado pelo Arts Council Ireland.

“When you walk together it is in the forest that is close by your house in the late afternoon. It is autumn in London but clear and bright, so that the facades of the tenements that you can see through the tree line are lit vividly yellow against the leaden grey of the sky. In a few hours the sunset will light the clouds on fire. The sky is huge and violently coiled above the canopy but down here you are sheltered; there is a sense of insulation and depth, of enormous distances. And anyway you are more focused on the other. The time is spent well – you feel love and connection with this person, and you think that both of you are happy as you walk, sometimes chatting about deep and intense things or about art, but most of the time just walking together in comfortable silence. Occasionally you push your finger through the palm of your opposite hand to be sure that you are still unconscious, and that you still have total control over what happens in this place. You can do whatever you want, but never really allow yourself to fully explore this since of course your ethical structuring is extremely well developed and remains in full operational control, even down here in the luxurious depths of fabulation. After some time the scene dissolves and you wake up and record the experience in detail so that later you will be able to share. (…)”

Avril Corroon (Ireland, 1991) is a visual artist working across moving image, performance, and sculpture to examine precarious living conditions including the housing crisis, wealth inequity and labour exploitation. Through making a 1:1 scale Porsche from cardboard disguised with a car dust cover, artisanal cheese from toxic mould collected from rented accommodation, or covertly filming whilst waitering poorly in a restaurant, she combines an absurd or dark humour with critique. She received an MFA from Goldsmiths University in 2019. Upcoming and past solo exhibitions include Got Damp at TACO (2023) in London, ‘Spoiled Spores’ curated by Sheena Barrett at the LAB, Dublin (2020) and ‘Just Do It’ at Ormond Studios, Dublin (2014).
