Sinopse:
Durante os últimos meses da Primeira Guerra Mundial, em uma fictícia estância balnear, o filme segue um grupo de espanhóis abastados que desfrutam das férias de verão, enquanto a Europa se despedaça pela guerra. Ironizando a neutralidade de Espanha, a trama gira em torno de uma guerra geracional: a jovem Loli é pressionada pela mãe para casar com um rapaz da mesma classe social. Três idosos, narradores de suas façanhas militares da juventude, comentam as frentes de batalha e alimentam a tensão entre pais e filhos. Berlanga, com seu tom jocoso, critica os valores da sociedade burguesa, refletindo sobre o isolacionismo durante um dos maiores conflitos da história moderna.

Synopsis:
Set during the final months of World War I, in a fictional seaside resort, the film follows a group of wealthy Spaniards enjoying their summer vacation while Europe is torn apart by war. Satirizing Spain’s neutrality, the plot centers around a generational battle: young Loli is forced by her mother to marry a wealthy suitor. Three elderly men, narrating their youthful military exploits, provide a humorous commentary on the German, French, and British battlefronts. Berlanga, with his jocular tone, critiques bourgeois societal values, reflecting on the isolationism that shaped the modern era during one of history’s greatest conflicts.
